Cowgirl Turkey Burgers

Cowgirl Turkey Burgers
1 lb. ground turkey
Med onion, sliced
4 T barbecue sauce
4 slices pepper jack cheese (or cheddar)
Green leaf lettuce
4 onion buns
Form turkey into 4 patties & brown in nonstick frying pan with sliced onions until golden brown on both sides and cooked thoroughly. (No pink inside!)
Lay cheese on top of burgers and move to a plate. Mix barbecue sauce and caramelized onions together coating all the onions. (This stuff is delicious!) I like to use Dean’s Natural Grill Mesquite BBQ sauce from Whole Foods Market (see photo at the bottom of page). Place burgers with cheese on buns, top with onions and lettuce.
These burgers would be good served with barbecue beans or potato salad.
Option: as I was eating this burger it crossed my mind that instead of barbecued onions that a whole roasted jalapeƱo chili lying atop the burger would be a delicious substitution. (Ortega brand has them in cans in the Mexican food section of grocery stores.) If you use a chili you wouldn’t want to use the barbecue sauce. Mmmmmm….
