Return To Waikiki – Luau & Show
Had a chance to go see the new show Return To Waikiki – Luau & Show featuring Makana and other local musicians. I’ve seen Makana a few times an he never fails to amaze people with his slack key guitar skills. He really tries to connect with the crowd.
Tickets include a buffet “luau” and a musical show set back in 1950′s-ish era. It was the glory days of Expaneded airline transportation and when retro Hawaiiana was just being born. The luau was loaded with a whole roast pig, chicken & long rice (clear noodles), Okanowan sweet potatoes, poi and other modern luau foods like potato macaroni salad and salad. Everyone in our group seemed to enjoy the food. It was good althpugh I have to admit, I long for the days when there were neighborhood luaus and the pigs were cooked with hot rocks in the ground. (hahaha. I’m not as old as that makes it sound!)
eturn To Waikiki plays inside the International Marketplace in the heart of Waikiki. A space near the food court has been sectioned off and a stage built with a canvas awning. It’s a great use of space not generally used in the market. Nice to see the thinking outside the box.
My favorite “character” in the show is the tutu (grandma) who dances a “naughty” hula skit. She cracks me up. Not bad for a 90 year old lady. The musicians are all incredibly talented and I enjoyed the show very much. I hope if you get the chance to see it you’ll go. Check online for discounts running.
Let me know what you liked best about the show if you go see it. I like when people leave comments.
